Field Trips and Social Events

Streamside Stays & Field Program
OBERON

The Society has secured rights for the exclusive use of a cottage in the Oberon area on a stream and also having access to a stocked farm dam for a weekend most months of the season.  The dates of these weekends are:

The 2009/10 FRESHWATER FISHING season opened on OCTOBER 3rd 2009

On the banks of the Fish River Creek  at Penarth we have  secured a  self catering cottage which caters for six people, has three bedrooms and one bathroom.  BYO bed linen and towels.  Cost per head is $30.00 per night.

Penarth has approximately 4 to 5 kilometres of  fishable creek frontage on Fish River creek which is the only spawning stream for Oberon Dam. In past years the creek on Penarth fished very well in the early season with many good sized lake rainbows and browns from the Oberon Dam still present after their winter spawning runs.  Water condition is dependant on rainfalls, can be anything from low and clear to high and discoloured.   In addition to the creek fishing, there is a  farm dam which is regularly stocked.  The rainbow fingerlings stocked there in February are now of legal size.

Dates for Penarth are:

16th and 17th (inclusive) April 2010
14th and 15th (inclusive) May 2010
22nd and 23rd (inclusive) October 2010
12th and 13th (inclusive November 2010

BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL.  Contact: Greg Prowse on   0414 712 501  0414 712 501 or email gprowse2@bigpond.com

REDBANK BILLABONG COTTAGE - OBERON

Billabong Cottage is 400m from the Fish River Creek.  It adjoins the Penarth property and subject to prior notification Penarth water can also be fished on the nominated weekends. The self contained cottage which has been recently renovated caters for up to eight people with two twin and  two double bedrooms and one bathroom.  BYO linen and towels.  The cost per head is $40.00 per night.

Dates for Redbank are:

12th and 13th (inclusive) March 2010

JINDABYNE

Lakeside accommodation at ‘PLATYPUS TOWNHOUSE’  has in the past  always been booked to coincide with the Cooma Land Owners Annual Dinner which is usually held in November.   The cottage is usually booked for seven nights in total and whilst it would be preferable for members and their guests to stay seven nights it is not essential -  short stays are welcome but subject to availability. The Lodge accommodates six people in three bedrooms and two bathrooms with bed linen and towels provided.  Cost per head is $40.00 per night.

In the past years, the river fishing in the Thredbo River in November has been excellent with large numbers of late spawning rainbows and many resident browns present.  The quality of the lake fishing depends on the lake levels – in turn driven by winter snowfalls – but normally offers good daytime polaroiding along the shore line.  Plus, of course, unlimited early morning/evening/night fishing right outside the lodge!

BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL. Contact:  Gerhard Benz on 9387 6641

2010 date TBA.

LAKE NARAMBULLA, NSW  Flyfisher Cottage at Lake Narambulla, Southern Highlands.

FLYFISHER COTTAGE at Lake Narambulla, Southern Highlands is situated on the edge of the lake,  has three bedrooms and two bathrooms and  comfortably accommodates three to four people. The cottage is self catering with BYO bedlinen and towels.  Cost per night is approximately $30.00 per person.

Lake Narambulla is located on the Hume Highway, halfway between Marulan and Goulburn. Its a large man-made lake (150 acres) containing a good number of both brown and rainbow trout. Recent fishing reports indicate an average size of fish caught to be between 5 and 8 pounds, all very well conditioned and hard fighting specimens. Hard to catch but certainly worth a try!
