The New South Wales Rod Fishers' Society operates a full schedule of events for members throughout the year.
Look Above for the latest calendar of events with dates and booking details.
Council Meetings
Council meetings are held prior to the luncheons at 1130a.m. on the first Thursday of each month.
Field program
The major aim of the Society's Field Program is to provide participants with access to decent fishing water. The outings are therefore ideal for new Society members, or more generally, members who wish to expand their knowledge of local trout streams and lakes. At each outing, participants can expect the presence of two or three competent members with local knowledge and/or a wealth of expertise in casting, entomology, streamcraft, fish‑spotting, or telling of fishy stories. These 'legends' are only too happy to share their wisdom with the other participants, and to provide tips and guidance in all piscatorial matters, both practical and theoretical.
A number of venues for these outings have been found particularly suitable because they meet certain 'convenience' criteria:
- No more than five hours' drive from the Sydney CBD
- Accessibility by normal car
- Close proximity to fishing water
- Reasonable standard and cost of accommodation
- Conditions in the State's trout waters can vary significantly throughout the season. The advantage of using several different venues for the Society outings is that events can be scheduled where and when fishing conditions are considered most promising.

Luncheons
Monthly luncheons, frequently with guest speakers, are held on the first Thursday of every month (except January) at the NSW Sports Club, 10-14 Hunter StreetSydney. They provide an opportunity for members to meet in the city and talk fishing and enjoy an excellent meal. Guests of members and prospective new members are always welcome.
Bookings for lunches should be made as early as possible, but at least two days prior (but in emergencies the club will accept late bookings up to 10am on the day of the lunch).
Telephone 02 9232 8607
Cost of $50.00 includes two-course meal with wine, and coffee.
Members arriving early meet in the downstairs bar where drinks may be purchased. Cancellations should be received at least twenty-four hours prior to lunch if unable to attend.
Landowners' Dinners
The Society hosts landowners' dinners annually.
These regional functions serve as an expression of appreciation by the Society and members to the landowners of the locality who, over the years, have kindly granted members access to the rivers and streams on their properties. The dinners provide an excellent opportunity for members and partners to socialise and make or renew the acquaintance of landowners. Of these two important fishing regions there can surely be no richer gathering of local knowledge than that to be enjoyed at a landowners' dinner.
Generally the Society will arrange a field trip in the district to correspond with the landowners' dinner. Refer to the Streamside Programme for further details.

Fly Tying and Auction Night
This is a once a year event held around July‑August. Supper and drinks are served. It is a friendly, casual affair where members are free to wander about the four or five fly tiers at their desks and ask questions or just observe. The Auction part of the evening is always entertaining and some very interesting fly fishing equipment changes hands, sometimes at bargain prices.

Annual General Meeting and Casting Day
Some time ago we decided that instead of holding the AGM in an air-conditioned club room, we should instead fill our lungs with fresh air, bring our families, picnic goodies and fly rods to a lake somewhere. After the business of the AGM was over we would have a nice barbecue, talk, tell tall tales and drink refreshing fluid from tall bottles while holding a friendly casting competition. New members can also receive casting instructions from the more advanced casters if they so wish.
